 | Helen Fanelli, Dramatic Mezzo Soprano hails originally from Austin Texas where she received her Bachelor of Music Degree (BFA) in Voice from the University of Texas. Since 2001, Ms. Fanelli has been on the Faculty of the Mozartina Musical Arts Conservatory (www.mozartina.org) in Tarrytown, New York in Westchester County, where she teaches voice. Ms. Fanelli recently appeared as a Soloist in Concert entitled, “With a Song in My Heart” on February 7th, 2010 at Christ and St. Stephen’s Church, with the Professional Women Singers Association, at 120 West 69th Street in Manhattan. On March 26th, 2009 Ms. Fanelli performed in Concert with the New Rochelle Opera Company in their production “The Four Sopranos”, honoring four great singers of the past, Licia Albanese, Roberta Peters, Rise Stevens and Martina Arroyo. On December 24th, 2008 Ms. Fanelli sang as the Alto Soloist in Handel’s Messiah with orchestra in Concert at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Mamaroneck, NY. On March 30, 2008 Ms. Fanelli performed in Recital with other members of the Faculty of the Mozartina Conservatory in a Concert at the Tarrytown Music Hall in a 100 year tribute to composers of the E. MacDowell Colony. In 2007, Ms. Fanelli performed with the Metropolitan Opera Company Chorus in the production of "Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg", conducted by James Levine. In 2006 she sang in the Met's production of "Fidelio". Previous performances with the Met include the Berlioz operas of "Benvenuto Cellini" in 2003-04 and "Les Troyens," in 2002-03 operas also conducted by Maestro James Levine. She has sung previously with the Taconic Opera, New Rochelle Opera, Brooklyn Lyric Chamber Opera, Regina Opera, Liederkranz Society, Operesque Opera and in Texas, the Dallas Lyric Opera, Austin Lyric Opera Company, the Austin Symphony and Austin Civic Chorus. From 2004 – 2010, Ms. Fanelli was the Alto soloist and section leader at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Mamaroneck New York. She is currently a member of AGMA (American Guild of Musical Artists), NYSTA (New York Singing Teachers' Association-see voice teachers under www.nyst.org) and PWSA (Professional Women Singers Association). Her operatic roles include: Marcellina, Carmen, Azucena, Flora, Hanna Glawari, and Erda. Her main voice teacher was the famous Baritone Jess Walters, who sang with the Royal Netherlands Opera and Convent Garden with Maria Callas & Joan Sutherland, Conductors: Walter Ducloux, Cornelius Eberhardt, John Burrows, Gregory Ortega, Jun Nakobaiashi, Adrian Bryttain & Daniel Long and Vocal Coaches Gerard Souzay, Fiora Contino, David Garvey (former accompanist of Leontyne Price), and the late Charles Riecker (from 1998-2006) and Stage Directors include Francesca Zambello, Jack Eddleman, Richard Crittenden, Boris Goldovsky, Dan Montez and Robert DeSimone.
